Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, Jan. 31: At 9:01 am a complainant reported a burglary to his building in the 800 block of W. Clark St. Numerous tools and related items were taken from the building. The officer began an investigation. At 12 pm officers conducted a consent search at a residence in the 300 block of N. High St. Officers had received information that possible stolen property was located in the garage. No stolen property was located. At 9:33 officers were requested at the Super 8 motel for a property damage accident. A U-Haul truck was being operated by James Cory Johnson of Clare, MI. Johnson attempted to pull under the canopy overhang and his truck was too tall and struck the building overhang. The truck had a reported $500 in damage. The building canopy suffered $800 in damages.
Saturday, Jan. 30: At 9 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the 100 block of W. State St. Alanna Orfield was backing from a parking spot in her 2012 GMC Terrain while Gary Reed, who was operating a 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck owned by Juhl Feed of Dana, was turning from E. State into the north alley. The vehicles collided at the entrance to the alley. Orfield’s vehicle suffered an estimated $500 in damages. The officer did not issue a citation, as he believed both drivers were at fault. At 9:02 am a complainant reported an overnight burglary to a tool trailer parked in the 400 block of E. Perry St. Numerous power tools were taken from the trailer. The officer is investigating. At 6:34 pm officers were assisted by a Greene County deputy with the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of E. Perry St. Footprints located in the snow had led from the earlier reported trailer burglary two blocks away to the backyard of this residence. During the search, officers removed possible stolen items and suspected narcotics from the residence. The investigation continues. At 10:49 pm school staff requested an officer at the Elks lodge where the school’s winter formal dance was taking place. School staff believed a student had been consuming alcohol before the event. The officers investigation led to Chanze Jay Bushman, 14, of Scranton being charged with possession of alcohol under legal age. Bushman was released to his parents.
Friday, Jan. 29: At 4 pm Donna Blair reported a hit and run accident. Blair was stopped in traffic near the intersection of Washington and Elm St. Blair advised a red truck was stopped ahead of her. Blair advised the truck backed into her vehicle and then left the area. Blair’s 2014 Mazda2 Touring MZ2 suffered damage to the front grill area. Damage estimate is $200. The officer is investigating. At 10:13 pm JPD officers assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with an escaped inmate from the jail. Within a few minutes, officers located the male in a camper in a backyard in the 300 block of E. Harrison St. The officers were able to arrest the male without incident. Andrew Lee Jensen, 33 of Jefferson, will face criminal charges for the event through the sheriff’s office.
Thursday, Jan. 28: At 8:03 am while on school patrol an officer spotted a male who the officer knew to have outstanding Greene County arrest warrants. The officer made contact with the male at the Greene County High School parking lot. Tyler Joe Beger of Grand Junction was arrested on the outstanding warrants for possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. At 3:44 pm a complainant reported a possible identity theft that had occurred in 2013. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Jan. 27: At 1:38 pm a complainant reported the theft of medications from an apartment in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive. The officer began an investigation.
Tuesday, Jan. 26: JPD officers issued 13 citations for violations of the snow emergency parking ordinance.
Monday, Jan. 25: At 2:20 pm a complainant reported a burglary at an apartment at 1000 W. Adams St. The officer is investigating. At 3:33 pm officers were called to the Greene County High School for a reported fight occurring outside the building. Officers arrived and spoke to two female juveniles. The officer obtained video of the event from the school and determined the fight was mutual between the girls. Charges of disorderly conduct will be forwarded to the juvenile court for Zoe Lawson, 14, Jefferson and Jackie Hawthorne, 15, of Scranton*. At 7:50 pm an officer arrested Michael Lee Eastman, 42, of Jefferson on an outstanding Guthrie County arrest warrant for non-payment of child support*.
Sunday, Jan. 24: At 8:55 am staff at Hy-Vee reported the theft of alcohol. The business provided the officer with surveillance video from the previous day which showed two male juveniles taking the alcohol from the store. The officer made contact with the juveniles and began investigating. Juvenile charges are pending.
Saturday, Jan. 23: At 2:06 am Wild Rose Casino Security requested assistance with subjects there. Officers arrived and made contact with the group. The officers learned the subjects had driven to Sparky’s together and then returned to the casino. One subject felt the other had taken property from his vehicle and an argument ensued. The officer is investigating. At 8:21 pm an officer arrested Brittany Kay Smith on an outstanding Greene County warrant for domestic abuse assault – serious*. At 11:03 am staff at Kum & Go reported a gas drive off. A registration plate was given to the investigating officer. At 4:09 pm an officer investigated a minor backing acciden at Kum & Go. A Jeep Cherokee owned and operated by Warren Matt of Glidden backed into a parked vehicle in the lot. Very minor damages were reported.
Friday, Jan. 22: At 3:15 pm Officers investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of N. Oak and W. Clark St. Michael McCarl of Pleasant Hill was eastbound on Clark driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Troy Binkley of Jefferson was northbound on Oak driving a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck. Neither driver saw the other as they approached the uncontrolled intersection and they collided. McCarl’s vehicle received damage to the rear passenger side quarter panel and around the back passenger side wheel, with damage estimated at $1,500. Binkley’s front bumper received damage estimated at $800. McCarl was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. At 11:59 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported several subjects in the store who appeared to be intoxicated. The subjects were leaving in a vehicle when the officer arrived. The officer followed the vehicle, but did not see any traffic violations.
Thursday, Jan. 21: At 1:17 pm JPD officers assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with the execution of a search warrant at 301 South 7th St, Grand Junction.
Wednesday, Jan. 20: At 12:17 am a JPD officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with locating an occupied vehicle that had gone into the ditch. The driver was unaware of their location. The subject’s cell phone was “pinged” with the help of Verizon Wireless and the vehicle was located in the ditch on 305th St just east of R Ave in Franklin Township. The driver was fine. At 12:44 pm an officer performed a traffic stop at Sunset and Southfield Drive on a vehicle with no registration sticker. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Nicholas Scott Lytle, 33 of Jefferson for possession of marijuana- second offense (serious misdemeanor)*. At 2:32 pm JPD officers, with assistance from the Greene County sheriff’s office, executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 300 block of N. Wilson. Upon the officers’ entry to the apartment, a male subject fled to a bedroom and shut the door. The subject would not comply with officers’ orders to open the door and began to barricade the door from inside the room. The officers continued to attempt to open the door and gain entry to the room. With the door slightly ajar, an officer was giving orders to a visible female in the room to fully open the door. The armed officer’s hand was struck with an object from inside the room. The male subject was standing behind the door attempting to hold it shut and struck the officer’s hand with the object. Officers eventually gained entry to the room and ordered the male to the floor. Officers determined the male had struck the officer’s hand with a large Bowie knife. Fortunately the handle of the knife had struck the officer’s hand, not the blade. The officer received minor injuries during the attempt to disarm him. Zakkariah Dylan-Levi Boudewyn, 23, of Jefferson, was arrested and charged with assault on persons in certain occupations/use or display dangerous weapon, assault on persons in certain occupations/bodily injury, interference with official acts/dangerous weapon, and disarming a peace officer (all class D felonies)*. Numerous suspected narcotic related items were seized from the apartment. Further charges are pending the results of lab testing of the items and the remainder of the investigation. At 7:23 pm a teenage complainant reported minor damages he located on his vehicle when he returned home from school. He was unsure where the vehicle had been damaged as he had gone several places after school before returning to his residence. The 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix had an estimated $500 in damages to the front left corner of the vehicle. The officer is investigating. ****Officers issued 15 citations for snow emergency parking violations during this reporting period.
Tuesday, Jan. 19: At 11:20 am a complainant reported the theft of electronic devices from his vehicle at in the 200 block of S. Oak St. At 3:13 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported shoplifting. The officer started an investigation. At 3:28 am officers investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the Hy-Vee parking lot. Sindee Heaning of Grand Junction was traveling east driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu. Tracy Tilford of Jefferson was traveling south driving a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicles met at an intersection in the parking lot, but due to slick conditions neither driver could stop. Their vehicles collided, causing minor damages. No citations were issued as the accident occurred outside the roadway on private property.
Monday, Jan. 18: At 3:39 pm an officer arrested Patrick Doyle for an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for unauthorized use of credit card*. At 4:10 pm an officer investigated an accident in the 700 block of S. Elm St. Noah Exline of Jefferson pulled into a private driveway at 708 S. Elm. The driveway was ice covered and Exline was unable to stop the vehicle from sliding into the rear of a parked 2002 Honda Accord owned by Chad Kirk of Scranton. Damage to Kirk’s car was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Exline’s 1992 Chevy S-10 pickup truck was estimated at $50. At 5:31 pm during a traffic stop at 230th St and Linwood an officer arrested James Michael Lefeber of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for harassment-third degree (simple misdemeanor)*.
Sunday, Jan. 17: At 6:49 pm a complainant reported being assaulted at a residence in the 100 block of W. Wilcox Way. An officer is investigating. At 8:05 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the Wild Rose Casino parking lot. A white 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by Randall Lehman was backing out of a parking spot and struck the rear of a silver 2005 Honda Civic that was unoccupied and parked. An estimated $50 in damages was caused to Lehman’s vehicle. The unoccupied vehicle sustained an estimated $1,000 in damages. *** An officer’s investigation has resulted in Brittany Smith being charged with domestic abuse assault –third or subsequent (class D felony)*. The investigation was initiated after a complaint made to an officer Nov. 11.
Saturday, Jan. 16: At 3:49 am a complainant reported her juvenile daughter missing from her residence in the 500 block of S. Maple St. An officer assisted the mother with searching and subsequently locating the juvenile. It was later known the juvenile snuck out of the house.
Friday, Jan. 15: At 1:49 pm a complainant reported her vehicle had been vandalized at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center. An officer is investigating the incident. At 1:52 a complainant requested a welfare check on two young children at Fareway. The officer checked on the children and determined they were not in any danger. At 2:30 pm a female reported being harassed by a male. An officer is investigating. At 2:36 pm a Fareway employee requested a welfare check on the same children as the prior call. At 5 pm a complainant reported a harassment complaint at a residence in the 300 block of N. Elm St.
Thursday, Jan. 14: At 2:21 pm a resident reported a possible identity theft. At 2:49 pm officers checked a residential burglary alarm at a residence in the 400 block of E. Lincoln Way. At 8:33 pm staff at Fareway advised of an abandoned bicycle there. The officer place the bike in the city impound lot. **** As the result of a completed investigation initiated Jan. 9 at a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St, an arrest warrant has been issued for James Michael Lefeber of Jefferson for harassment-third degree (simple misdemeanor)*.

Monday, Jan. 11: At 10:10 am JPD officers assisted the US Secret Service with security for a presidential candidate event at Abundant Life Ministries. At 11:13 am officers were advised of a possible domestic situation occurring in the alley of the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer made contact with a female in the area who advised of a physical altercation with a known male. The officer is investigating. At 12:34 pm a female complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 300 block of N. Oak St for an unwanted female on the premises. The same complainant at 6 pm reported being harassed by phone. At 11:27 pm a male complainant requested an officer at the same residence in the 300 block of N. Oak St for a female who was not allowed to be there attempting to enter the residence.
Sunday, Jan. 10: At 7:50 pm a complainant reported a possible violation of a no contact order occurring in Jefferson.
Saturday, Jan. 9: At 8:46 pm staff from the Iowa Department of Corrections requested assistance from a JPD officer in locating a male subject who was late returning to a work release program after being given a 48 hour leave. At 9:27 pm a JPD officer assisted a Panora police officer with an investigation.
Friday, Jan. 8: At 10:25 am a complainant reported a trespass reported a occurring at a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St. At 2:05 pm a JPD officer arrested Megan Marie McCormick of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County warrant for harassment – third degree (simple misdemeanor)*. At 6:53 pm officers investigated a motor vehicle accident at the Wild Rose Casino. Ann Grace Krieger of Jefferson had struck another vehicle owned by Collen Mary Sanders of Dayton while pulling into a parking spot. Estimates are $500 to repair Krieger’s 2001 Mercury Villager and Sanders’ 2004 Buick Rendezvous. No citation was issued as it occurred on private property and most traffic offenses do not apply outside of the roadway. At 7:15 pm Jim North reported a backing collision in the 700 block of W. Adams St. North was backing his 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan from a private drive and struck a legally parked vehicle on the street. The 2005 Cadillac, owned by Diane Bergemann of Jefferson, received damage from the impact. The officer $1,000 in damage for each vehicle. North was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway.
Thursday, Jan 7: At 4:28 pm Ryan Ayers requested an officer at the Greene County Medical Center emergency room. Officers ultimately arrested him for disorderly conduct – simple*.
Wednesday, Jan. 6: Routine activity reported.
Tuesday, Jan. 5: At 12:48 pm the Ames Police Department contacted Jefferson city hall staff in connection with the unauthorized use of a credit card. The transaction occurred at city hall in June of 2015. The JPD will assisting Ames PD with the investigation.
Monday, Jan. 4: At 11:49 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. Audrey Arnold of Jefferson was backing from a private drive and struck a mailbox post. Her 2007 Toyota Camry sustained $500 in damages to the right rear corner and the mailbox post had a reported $150 in damage. No Citation was issued as the accident occurred on private property, before reaching the roadway. At 6:45 pm a complainant reported subjects spotlighting deer at Westwood and Deer Run. The officer did not locate the subjects.

Saturday, Jan. 2: At 12:27 am a complainant reported a hit and run accident that had occurred at Kum & Go. A 2008 Mini Cooper, owned by Mickayla Johnson of Jefferson, had been parked in the business parking lot. The owner noticed minor damage to the vehicle after returning home from work. The incident is under investigation. At 8:05 am a complainant spoke with an officer about a possible identity theft. At 12:14 pm a complainant reported unauthorized use of her credit card she had previously lost in Jefferson.
At 4:02 pm officers investigated a two vehicle property damage accident that had occurred on the overpass in the 1000 block of N. Elm St. A 2009 Pontiac G6, driven by Jerrett Harrah of Jefferson, was northbound in the outside lane. A 2014 Ford F150, owned and operated by Patsy Hastings of Jefferson, was northbound in the inside lane, beside the Harrah vehicle. Hastings vehicle attempted to switch to the outside lane and struck the Harrah vehicle. The Harrah vehicle had a reported $900 in damages and the Hastings vehicle suffered a reported $600 in damages. Hastings was issued citation for improper use of lane.
Friday, Jan. 1: At 11:55 am officers investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of W. Lincoln Way and Vine St. A 2014 Ford F150 truck, owned and operated by Peggy Wedel of Bagley, was stopped at the posted stop sign at Vine and Lincoln Way, facing north. A 2011 Honda Civic, owned and operated by Ceiry Duenas of Jefferson, was westbound in the 100 block of W. Lincoln Way. The Wedel vehicle left the stop sign and entered the intersection in front of Duenas. The vehicles collided in the intersection. The Wedel vehicle had a reported $3,000 in damages and the Duenas vehicle suffered a reported $6,000 in damages. Wedel was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign. At 1:38 pm a complainant reported the theft of stereo equipment from an apartment in the 100 block of E. State St. An investigation has begun. At 1:52 pm officers were called to Cobblestone Inn for a disturbance in a guest room between two females. Officers arrived and learned a physical altercation had taken place between a mother and her adult daughter. The investigation led to Suez Ann Smith, 45 of Lake City being arrested and charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs (serious misdemeanor) and domestic abuse assault, public intoxication, and interference with official acts (simple misdemeanors)*. At 8:59 pm a complainant reported a male pumping fuel into a vehicle at Kum & Go who appeared to be intoxicated. Officers arrived and made contact with the driver and occupants of the vehicle. The officers were assisted by an Iowa State Patrol trooper. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Jamie Ray Alvardo, 21, of Grand Junction operating while intoxicated – first offense, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanors), public intoxication and operation without a valid license*. Alvardo resisted arrest and a short struggle ensued with officers before he was placed into custody. The ISP trooper arrested four juvenile passengers in the vehicle for possession of alcohol under legal age.
